I am one of those that hasn't even read any of this guys books, but since I've seen the film, I know that I must! For those of you in the UK and other places that haven't seen this film yet, I highly recommend it. It's phenomenal. Really. It's not for little kids, I'd say Junior High or even older. I grew up watching spooky movies, blood, gore, monsters, slash, suspense, you name it, I've watched them. So I thought that this would be a cool and cutesy movie, especially since I am a fan of Burton-esque stuffs. I started to get seriously creeped-out at some parts, and others were just bizarrely hilarious. Disturbing and funny. I was really drawn into this one, good, considering that this isn't even live-action stuff. This film is definitely up there on my list of favorites, up there with Tres Couleurs, Donnie Darko and Secret Window. Oooh! And Rear Window and Disney's Sword In the Stone and La vita รจ bella (principessa!). I suppose that I just like good movies, eh? OK, off I go. Got to get some work done, and plenty of online news to catch up on. I'm becoming a regular information junkie. |

Hooray for Coffee and Odwalla Super Protein! I caved and took the kids and friends up to Sparks last night to catch The Adicts. We got there a little early, and got in around 8pm. I headed straight to the bar, found a comfy sofa and attempted to take a nap. Thank goodness I got some custom musicians plugs made. They were my saving grace. I was woken up a few times, once by a random chick that thought I was with one of the guys in the band (why? I will never know), once by some drunk dude who nearly sat on me, and once by a guy who worked there, asking if I was OK. Anyhow, I slept through the opening acts. The show was done sometime after 1am and I didn't get home until after 2. Ugh. A nice strong cup of Peet's Coffee and some lovely Odwalla and I'm almost feeling human! It's a miracle! Gosh, I'm just not as young as I used to be. But, as I had mentioned, custom plugs are TOTALLY worth the cost (I got them at our cost, around $125, and worth every penny). Even if I had to pay regular cost of $220, it's worth saving your ears. Regular disposables work well, but my ears ache so badly that I just went without. Anyhow, the kidlets refused to listen to old mom and wear any hearing protection and are now complaining about the ringing. I have chronic tinnitus. I have had it since I was around 13 because of loud music and no earplugs at shows. I hope that they learn their lessons. They were front row and in the pit, right next to the speakers. Not great for your ears. Anyhow, the show was good. The kids had a great time. The Adicts were great, especially considering that they've been around since I was an infant. But, I still highly recommend Mute Math. My favorite live (non mainstream) show so far. I know that I've said it before, but they are talented, creative and their drummer is amazing. He's a beast. OK, off I go. Got to work. I hope that you all have a fantastic day!

I have a confession. This morning at the grocery store, I bought the new issue of GQ. The one with Rob Pattinson. I am prepared to lie and tell people that I bought it for my teenage daughter. I feel a bit like a perv, he's just a baby, but he is definitely pretty easy on the eyes. Haha. Well, I will enjoy this bit of eye candy on my desk today, that is until my girls discover it. Then it will go away. *Sigh* I need to get a life. |

Do not discuss your significant other's body hair, or lack thereof, location, density or where it leads. Ever. Your co-workers appreciate your discretion. Especially first thing in the morning.

Yeah, before I even post any news issues, THE DONNIE DARKO EPIC CONTINUES!!! Hmmm. S.Darko Doesn't look remotely as good as Donnie Darko (which is an all-time favorite in my house), but it does has Jackson Rathbone in it. We shall see. |

I was watching this morning's local news. There was a movie review which included The Rise of the Lycans. Once the reviews were finished, the female news caster said: "Isn't that a fungus?" It took me several beats to puzzle out what the heck she was talking about. Once it registered, I was most annoyed. No, Lycan has nothing to do with fungus. But certainly you are confusing it with Lichen. Honestly. I'm not all that ejumacated. I only like books. I'm sure that this chick has at least one college degree. I remember years ago when I was a new student at the local continuation high school. One of the teachers thought that he would give me a quick verbal assessment to know at what level of work to place me. He made the mistake of asking me what lupine meant. Of course, as I was very interested in wolves at the time, I not only knew the definition of the word, but had he asked me, I could have told him about the characteristics of (and fairly accurately sketched) a paw imprint of several species of wolves and explained their hunting ranges and social hierarchy. So, for obvious reasons, I (a previous high school drop-out) was slightly annoyed by a public figures blatant ignorance of something so basic. If you don't know something, spare us all and keep your pie hole shut. I don't claim to be intelligent, I'm just fairly good at appearing un-stupid. That is until you really get to know me. I'm rather retarded pretty often. Oh, and I used to be sort of hooked on reading the dictionary. I still do browse through it on occasion. I love thesaurus's (or whatever the heck the plural is.) |

Last night while Sirius and I were in obedience class, I could has sworn I heard someone call their dog "Porthos". Classy name! My boy is so smartums. He's learning "lie down" and "stay". He's still working on recall, but he's a pretty quick study. "Sit", "cookie", "walkies" and "holo holo" (let's go somewhere) are so five minutes ago for him. I love my baby boy. I don't think that he will have any problems passing the companion animal test. Then again, I am his mom. I'm not biased at all. hee. |

Woolworths is going away. I remember shopping at them when I was a kid in Hawaii. I also remember Gem department store. I think that they still have Holiday Mart. Good memories. I suppose that times change. It was fun reading the article and the comments. My first music purchase with my own money was Poison's "Open Up and Say Aaah...!" in vinyl. I got it at Bill's Drug store in Gilroy, California. Wow, things have really changed. I think that the last thing that I bought at Woolworth's was when I was just a kid. I was visiting grandma and grandpa at their condo in Honolulu. We walked to the store and I got a My Little Pony. The original ones. I think that it was Apple Jack. I distinctly remember that it was around Christmas time and I had a lavender purple umbrella with candies on it. It was so girly. I loved it! |

Whilst on the way to the airport early this morning, we know that it's cold. Very cold. The little temperature gauge thingy in the truck will sometimes flash "ice" alternating with the temperature reading. Well, as we drove through one of the valleys, we watched it drop from 12 to 10 and down, down, down to freaking negative two. Sick. Just sick. Thank goodness it's back up to near human temperatures. It's currently 8 degrees outside. I am just glad that the wind hasn't picked up. I hate everyone when it gets below the 40s. Ick. My poor chillins. They in Vegas on layover now. They've gone for Christmas with their dad and he's in South Dakota. The below zero temperatures is normal for them. Yoinks. I warned them to layer their clothes and stay dry. I don't want anyone to come back with frostbite. It sucks. |

And in turn nabbed from "These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish." Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell Looks to me like I need to make some time to read! *sigh* |

Feeling a bit satisfied. I have gotten a few things done in the past two days. - Took dad to get his fistula checked out. They did a renogram, but weren't able to get the lead and balloon all the way through, so they booked him for next week with the doc's colleague. Spent 4 hours there, but at least we have a better understanding on why the pressure is so high and they are having trouble getting him started dialising. - Moved my friends from one apartment to another on Sunday. (well that was more than two days ago). I even worked out for 30 minutes last night. It was on the recumbent bike, mind you, but my body still freaking aches from Sunday! - I got some laundry done last night. - I finished inputting the lists from '04, '05 and just finished '06 about 5 minutes ago. Woohoo! - I paid two bills and got my car insurance lowered by more than half (by dropping loads of unnecessary stuff that i've been carrying by habit for years.) - Completed the applications for the new town house that I want to move to in the new year. I will drop it off when I pick dad up from dialysis. The town house is right across the street from dialysis and walmart and restaurants and the gas station and coffee!!! - I have finally gotten access to the new scheduling program that work has been using. I'm just the red-headed step child, but that's ok with me. As long as they leave me alone. Next week Wednesday will be the dentist for me, another renogram attempt for dad. Then Thursday we got to Truckee to see some specialists from San Francisco to get dad on the kidney list! I am so excited! Tomorrow he sees his GP to check out the healing of the lesion on his leg and get some other paperwork completed. The paperwork and appointments are never ending. A word of wisdom from dad: GO TO THE DOCTOR, Sweetie. Even if you don't feel sick. Get regular check ups. All of this funness is a result of unchecked high blood pressure. I assure you, the doctor can in fact be your friend at times. Don't screw with your health peoples. OK, I have done enough for today. I think that my brother is driving over to stay for a few days. I can't wait to boss him around and make him do all of my chores that I haven't had time for. Then when he's done, we can kick the kids out of the living room and play video games. WOO!

Dear Ms. Viking Carrot, I would like to comment on your post about the Mumbai murders. I would like to think that I understand where you are coming from. I can't say for certain that I do understand, only because I don't know you personally, that's all (I don't like to make trite, shallow assumptions, and you seem to be someone that has a brain in her head.) Earlier this evening, I was a bystander to a conversation about this subject. I listened in, and was saddened by what I heard. When I initially read the news online yesterday, I was upset. All that I could think of was the senseless hate and violence, regardless of where in the world, or who was involved. I hear your frustration. I've grown up rather sheltered here in my country. I take many things for granted, such as my safety, etc. I've been fairly desensitized to violence on TV and in the news, but I'm slowly learning how to pull my head out of my arse. So, for what it's worth, I just wanted to let you know that I read your entry and I appreciate your opinions. |

A co-worker just called me. The other night, she had gone with some friends out to have a drink. She was introduced to a guy there who's girlfriend knew some of the other girls in their group. Anyway, it turns out that this guy was just arrested last night for a high profile murder committed earlier this year. This had many folks in several states on edge and praying fervently for the victims safe return. It was horrible when they found her body. Freak. Apparently this guy's DNA was found at other crime scenes. My heart goes out to Bri Denison's family. May they find justice and a measure of peace. |
